Today, the Korean people are exposed to many harmful risks including obesity, drugs, alcohol, and smoking. Despite the interdisciplinary efforts by various institutions to eradicate those harmful elements in our society, those risks still remain a great threat to our people. Therefore, the Korea Harm Reduction Association (KHRA) wants to protect the public from health hazards and recommend proper treatment.
‘Harm Reduction’ is not about treating the public and patients in coercive manner in order to attain quantitative impact in a short period of time. ‘Harm Reduction’ rather aims to "decrease" the harm factors through implementing a long-term plan, while constantly raising the public awareness of those harms. With the new therapeutic approach of 'Harm Reduction,' I'm confident we can achieve improved health and quality of life for all people.
The KHRA is proud to be the co-host of the 3rd Asia Harm Reduction Forum, which will be held in Seoul on 29 August 2019. We look forward to welcoming all the participants from Asia and the Pacific region. We believe that this Forum will greatly benefit the public health sectors and particularly smokers in Asia who deserve the access to better alternative tobacco products.
